The metabolic changes produced by moderate alcohol consumption include increased circulating levels of adiponectin, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, apolipoprotein A1 and C-reactive protein, as well as decreased levels of fibrinogen, but clear-cut connections to any of the protective effects of alcohol remain to be established.
